Fall 2014, Team of Three
Task:
Use Solidworks to design a bridge, and finite element analysis (FEA) to determine where at at what load it will fracture.
Results:
Approximations by hand calculations and the FEA solidworks tool were used to predict deflection and failure of the laser-cut plywood bridge. The bridge was one of just a few in the history of the course that incorporated cables. Predictions were conservative compared to practical results.
Personal Contributions:
- Designed bridge side walls (trusses)
- Conducted FEA analysis for ultimate load
